[...] The last opinion piece I submitted to the Salt Lake Tribune went unanswered for a week before I put it on my blog. I wrote a response to their endorsement of Senator Hatch and it greeted with the same silence. Realizing time was of the essence, I emailed the editor and called their Reader Advocate. Last night, I received a call from Vern Anderson informing me that the Salt Lake Tribune does not publish opinion pieces from candidates. Not only that, the letter my wife wrote correcting Matt Canham’s mistaken statement that, my “friends and family told (me my campaign) was a waste of (my) time”, would also not be published.
I'd just add that on last two Christmas Eves it has RAINED in Salt Lake City. If Orrin lived in Utah he'd know that.

Spot-on reply to Sen. Hatch's myopic view of the world and of climate change. I, too, remember the long, cold winters of the late 70s and early 80s, when we'd have huge mounds of snow on my SLC street that would last for weeks at a time. Also, I recall longer, colder winters in New England, when I lived there in the 1990s; now their winter sports and winter economy are hurting due to shorter freeze cycles.

As a former Utahn who now lives in a sauna climate of Washington, DC, I'm very happy to see you step up to the plate to challenge the Hatch régime. And, frankly, I'd love to have you as a part-time neighbor out here.

"Today, Utah winters make the 70’s seem like I was living in Alaska."

I understand why you'd use anecdotes (it's something people can relate to), but you shouldn't use anecdotal evidence as your main argument. There are plenty of measurable signs that global warming is happening. Glacial retreat, for one.

It's refreshing to hear an educated take on global warming. I have endorsed you for Senate on my blog, and would love to continue to post regarding your campaign. Let me know how I can help.
