A number of people have asked whether I would be interested in running for Utah governor or congress this year. It is humbling to be considered. However, currently my commitment to my family, XMission, and the local organizations I sit on boards for does not lend the time required for a candidacy this year. In January I took on the role of chairing the Utah Heritage Foundation for two years and I feel strongly about seeing that role through. I am looking forward to the political possibilities presented in 2010.

Pete:
Perhaps a future date/commitment - there are so many Utah residents who greatly respect you and your ideals (myself included).

I know you are busy but it would be amazing to have a good progressive alternative to our usual choices.

That’s too bad because I think you have a better chance against Governor Huntsman than the current Democratic candidate(s). (Unfortunately those chances are still fairly slim as Utah residents are inexplicably pleased with their governor.)

Pete,
You are undoubtedly doing the right thing. I wish things were more like the days back in the 1940’s, 1950’s. Then there was some balance in the state’s political spectrum. Maybe Steve Olsen’s approach running for the state legislature will help change the balance of political power.

Pete, we appreciate everything you do for the community. I hope you can use your political influence to make a difference for telecommunications in this state. We really need to advance projects like Utopia in many more cities than it is currently in.
