Technology
From Pete Ashdown Campaign Collaboration Wiki
It seems that American companies have become increasingly concerned with their bottom lines. And even more egregiously the bottom line of the current quarter. This country has gained and maintained a competitive advantage over the years from such visionary companies and organizations as Bell Labs, IBM, NASA, and others who invested in the future rather than focusing on the current quarter's profit margin. Profits are very important, but more and more it seems like we are leveraging our future to sustain that status quo.
Companies should be more pro-active in securing the future of the United States as the forerunner of technological advancement instead of placing this country in jeopardy of falling behind.
One of the key technologies that Americans should be focused on is "renewable energy". Not only would this research be an engine for economic growth, but it would also have positive political and environmental consequences. This research would help remove our dependence on foreign oil and all the political absurdity that accompanies such dependence. It would also allow for a reduction in the amount of fossil fuels burned and greenhouse gases sent into the atmosphere. Being the world leader in renewable energy producing technologies could very well be the next "space race" and we should start running that race before our domestic brain drain puts us at a disadvantage.
I am also opposed to all forms of regulation on the Internet. See Internet Neutrality.
