SALT LAKE CITY (KSL News Services) -- Residents can now surf the net while
they're in downtown Salt Lake City -- for free.
Salt Lake City and XMission have teamed up to offer free
wireless access from 500 South to South Temple on Main Street.
Wireless Internet is already available at the Main Library and
the Gallivan Center, and will be at Pioneer Park by the fall and
Liberty Park by next year.
The official launch for the Main Street service is August ninth.
However, XMission President Pete Ashdown said laptops can log on
now.
Meanwhile, Ashdown is running for Senator Orrin Hatch's seat,
but said he planned to provide free wireless on Main Street before
he announced his Democratic candidacy.
